Power BI is a powerful tool that allows users to create and share interactive reports, dashboards, and other data visualizations. However, sometimes users may encounter a problem when trying to toggle a report to be included in an app. Specifically, the ‘Include in App’ column may be greyed out, preventing the user from including the report in the app. If this happens to you, don’t worry – there’s a solution!
In August 2022, Microsoft announced the “Public Preview of Multiple Audiences for Power BI Apps.” This new feature allows Power BI App authors to create multiple audience groups within the same app and assign different permissions to each group. This means that authors can decide which content, such as reports and dashboards, should be shared with specific audience groups within an app using a single workspace.
This is a game-changer for Power BI users. With fine-grained access permissions for app consumers, users can consume various artifacts within the app based on their group permissions. This minimizes operational overhead for app authors, as well.
So, if you’re having trouble including a report in an app because the ‘Include in App’ column is greyed out, don’t despair! Just take advantage of the new Public Preview of Multiple Audiences for Power BI Apps.
Here’s how to get started on how to toggle a report:
- Click Update App >> This will open a page with three tabs Setup, Content and Audience
- Click Content Tab >> Add Content >> Select the Workspace you would need to add or remove
- The App author can also change the order of the content artifacts in the App
- The App author can also rename the content artifacts in the App
- Click Audience Tab >> Make sure your new added content is unhidden, by default this would be hidden.
- Update the App
- Share the App with the App consumers
With this feature, you’ll be able to include your reports in apps with ease and share them with the right audience groups. Happy data visualizing!
